Dr Kaleena Bulan Michael MBChB FRCOphth PhD

Dr Kaleena Michael is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with subspecialist interest in Vitreo-retinal surgery, retinal conditions and cataracts.

Dr Michael graduated in Medicine from the University of Dundee in 2008, and completed her foundation doctor years in Dundee. In 2010, she began training as an ophthalmologist in Glasgow and various hospitals in the West of Scotland. While in training, she also undertook the position as the Clinical Research Fellow for the Glasgow Centre for Ophthalmic Research and the University of Glasgow and participated in numerous multinational, commercial and non-commercial clinical trials in predominantly ophthalmic and oncology research. Here she was part of a biomedical physics research collaboration, while embarking on her PhD research in retinal toxicity which was completed in 2021.

During training, she was passionate about trainee welfare and was the New Trainee mentor for several years, before elected Chief of Resident for Glasgow and Trainee representative for the West of Scotland in her final year of training.

After training, she completed a fellowship in Vitreo-retinal surgery in Ayr University Hospital, where she was later appointed as Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreo-retinal Surgeon for NHS Ayrshire and Arran. She is actively involved in teaching and supervising medical students, optometrists and trainee doctors.
