Implantable contact lens

Ayrshire Eye Clinic

An Evolution in visual freedom (EVO)

Also known as the Implantable Collamer Lens, EVO is the new generation in vision correction. Think of it as an implantable lens that works with your natural eye to correct your vision. Our procedure creates options for a much wider range of prescriptions that can free you from glasses and contacts. EVO offers benefits which people suffering from near-sightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism should consider.

What are the benefits

  1. In harmony with the natural eye

The EVO – implantable collamer lens procedure can be described as additive vision correction. Unlike other procedures, the EVO procedure does not remove corneal tissue, but works in harmony with your natural eye. The lens gently unfolds inside your eye, rests behind your iris, and is biocompatible with your body chemistry.

  2. A reversible option

EVO patients can correct their vision with peace of mind. In the unlikely event of a major prescription change or the availability of new vision correction options, EVO is completely removable, assisting our patients, together with their doctor, to make changes to keep pace with technology and their changing needs

  3. A day case procedure with quick recovery

The EVO Collamer material enables our insertion method to be minimally invasive. With only a 3.5 mm insert, we can optimise the procedure and recovery time dramatically. Additionally, the procedure is also painless because of the numbing medication. Patients can usually expect a 20-30 minute procedure or less and most people are able to resume daily activities in just a few short days with clearer vision.

  4. Protection from UV rays

By gently inserting our EVO lens into the eye we’re able to create a barrier of UV protection. The Collamer material that makes up our ICLs has unique properties that provide UV protection.

The Procedure

Before inserting the lens, the eye is numbed using anaesthetic eye drops, and there is very little discomfort associated with the procedure. The surgery typically takes 15 to 20 minutes to perform.

Your Personalised Procedure

To determine which procedure is right for you, a comprehensive assessment is conducted utilizing state-of-the-art technology. Based on the thorough diagnostic assessment, your surgeon will tailor a treatment plan to match the right procedure for your unique vision needs.
